Why we do it:
Midwest is geographically challenged due to having a limited number of military bases. The Guard and Reserve have been heavily utilized in the past 11 plus years of war on active duty status with multiple deployments - this has never been done before in the history of our military. The transition home to civilian life is often very challenging for our military and their families in terms of; ongoing poly-trauma concerns, strained family relationships, educational/employment challenges and financial management concerns. There are many unmet and unanticipated needs in critical life areas; especially for our Guard and Reserve when they come home from service, largely because we are in uncharted territory for returning military. Coming home from war to an area that has a limited number of military bases can be nothing short of culture shock. That is why we are stepping up proactively to address this situation.
